Club News for Members & Guests
A few things to cover this week 20/04/2018
First of all we have been left a large book collection to be used for the benefit of the club. This is a fabulous collection of which some were sold at the Show and the next stage is to continue offering these to members over the next three meetings, two evenings and the running day on the 19th. After this date I will be photographing the books with the intention of selling what remain to a second hand bookseller. It would be appreciated if members make a nominal contribution for any books they would like and all sums raised will go to club reserve funds.

2018 Chairman's Challenge
Entry date 24th October (fish and Chip night)
This year’s Chairman’s challenge is to build, possibly modify, and paint a PECO wagon to a private owner scheme that promotes the club.
The paint scheme and markings/lettering are up to you, as are modifications and whether you make a pristine or weathered model. The judging will be on the basis of attractiveness and whether it will be noticed and commented on by public attending shows etc. Hopefully a fleet of these models will raise comments and be conversation openers for new members.
I will be supplying wagons, one per member and we will have a modelling night where members not used to kit build and painting can ask for help. I am also looking at making transfers or supplying rub down transfers, available at the modelling night(s).
Possible lettering or wording could be as follows but not limited to.

- We made in excess of £850 profit from the show with visitors numbers with children around 200 and again a thank you to everyone.
- Wokingham Footbridge preservation group. Dave Arnold is liaising with others on this matter and will report any progress.
- We need to plan the shed move and I propose that on the 19th, the May running day, we take decisions on how we are going to refit the new shed
- Wokingham Layout is the next club priority. There is a window of opportunity while the footbridge is topical, and in line with the discussions and publicity about the Wokingham footbridge the plans for the Wokingham layout is now focusing on the station and its precincts, rather than a false perspective to the town. This significantly simplifies the design and build and it is time to start sub projects to make progress. We now have the track down on the fiddle yard and main boards. And hopefully over the next two meetings we will complete the end curves. Next stages are wiring and scenery and I would like to propose several activity groupings that members can now participate in as follows and I would appreciate volunteers to take on different aspects of the build.
- Mark-up the two end boards with track and scenic information, and lay track to complete the circuit. DC +others
- Clean and finesses track, wire brush off cyanoacrylate fumes, clean track and add dummy sleepers in gaps. Also check dead sections are insulated and frogs are disconnected. Modify track at level crossing.
- Track wiring, fit Cobalt point motors (needs DCC system to program) and wire frogs and track to 25 way D sockets. The bolts to mount cobalt motors are already in place and I have received the 25way D socket patch panels. GG+ others
- Design and build control panel.
- Plan what buildings need built and their design methodology. I like the Pendon idea of assembling buildings on plug in boxes allowing then to be added and removed. I have some drawings from the local planning website and lots of photographs. Each building or group of buildings is a project in itself.
